# Why IOTA reward USD values change without new tokens

The USD figure is a token amount multiplied by a market estimate. A refreshed quote can change that figure without any additional training reward. It is not a cash balance or a guaranteed execution price. Read the native IOTA amount first, followed by the quote source and its timestamp.

## At a glance

The USD figure is a token amount multiplied by a market estimate. A refreshed quote can change that figure without any additional training reward. It is not a cash balance or a guaranteed execution price. Read the native IOTA amount first, followed by the quote source and its timestamp.

## What to check

Verify that the asset is Macrocosmos IOTA on Bittensor subnet 9, rather than the similarly named IOTA layer-1 coin. Where valuation combines an SN9 price in TAO with TAO/USD, both inputs affect the result. Compare the timestamp of each available source. If the quote is old or missing, retain the native reward record; an unavailable valuation does not establish zero earnings.

## Example

Example: 0.2 IOTA remains 0.2 IOTA after a price rise, although its estimated USD value increases. Save the token amount, asset identity, quote source and quote time for reconciliation. Subtracting yesterday’s USD estimate from today’s mixes token activity with market movement and cannot identify newly earned IOTA.
