# Seine on CPU or NVIDIA: which address to copy before you look up BNT

Seine documents CPU and NVIDIA backends, the default pool URL, and shortname resolution. The monitor accepts only the full mainnet address fixed in the log. Check the driver and the port on the miner.

## At a glance

Confirm whether this Seine run uses CPU, NVIDIA, or both, then paste the full mainnet address from that run's log into BNT monitoring. A shortname and a worker label are not the lookup key.

## Names to keep apart

| String you have | What it is | Lookup key for the monitor? |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Full mainnet address in the log | Payout address fixed for this run | Yes |
| @name or $name | Shortname Seine resolves before mining | No. Use the full address from the log |
| Worker label | Machine name under that address | No. It is not a wallet |
| --backend cpu or nvidia | Which kind of hashrate this run uses | No. The monitor does not switch backends |

## Which backend this run uses

Start Seine first, then open [BNT monitoring](https://iotahome.site/en/projects/bnt). This page answers two things: whether this run uses CPU, NVIDIA, or both, and which string you paste for the lookup. It does not launch the miner for you.

The Seine repository describes an external Blocknet miner with pluggable CPU and NVIDIA GPU backends. The default mode is pool. First startup asks for a Blocknet payout address or a Blocknet ID shortname (`@name` or `$name`), then a pool URL. The documented default is `stratum+tcp://bntpool.com:3333`. The monitor reads that address on bntpool.com. Whether the miner is connected is in the Seine log. Do not change this URL only because the monitor is empty.

The requirements table says CPU works out of the box on Linux x86_64, macOS x86_64, macOS ARM, and Windows x86_64. NVIDIA is listed for Linux x86_64 and Windows x86_64, and it asks for a CUDA driver plus NVRTC libraries. Neither macOS row lists an NVIDIA backend. The macOS ARM row marks Metal as experimental. The Windows release archive includes the CUDA 12.8.61 NVRTC runtime DLLs used by the NVIDIA backend. The repository still requires an up-to-date NVIDIA display driver, and it says the pre-built archive should not need a separate CUDA Toolkit install or a PATH change.

Each CPU thread needs about 2 GB of RAM for the Argon2id parameters. Seine sizes the thread count from available cores and memory. x86_64 CPU builds include AVX2 and AVX-512 and dispatch at runtime. You can pass `--backend cpu`, `--backend nvidia`, or `--backend cpu, nvidia`. Auto-detect is the default. A label such as `--pool-worker rig-01` is a worker name on the pool account. It is not a second wallet.

Shortnames need Seine v0.2.16 or newer. Before mining, Seine checks the signed mapping at https://blocknet.id and validates the address. The resolved address is logged and stays fixed for that run, including reconnects. A saved shortname is resolved again on the next run. Unknown names, resolver failures, invalid signatures, and invalid addresses stop startup. A full address does not contact the resolver. Paste the full mainnet address from the log. The monitor checks the mainnet checksum only. A testnet address that Seine can start is not a lookup here. Do not paste a private key or a seed phrase.

## Before you paste into the monitor

Before the lookup, check these items, then open the monitor with that address.

- The full mainnet address already fixed in the log.

- Whether this run uses CPU, NVIDIA, or both.

- Whether the pool URL is still the documented bntpool.com. If the monitor is empty, read the log before changing it.

- The worker label is a machine name. It does not replace the address.

## When a backend does not start

Branches: if NVIDIA does not start, the documented prerequisite is the driver plus NVRTC. That is not a promise that every card mines. On macOS, do not look for an NVIDIA column. The documented path is CPU, and Metal on the ARM row is experimental. Solo mining and other pools are outside this monitor. Daemon mode is a separate Seine path for a local Blocknet node. The monitor reads the public bntpool.com account, not the node wallet.

Illustrative example: you run `./seine --backend cpu, nvidia --pool-worker desk`. The log fixes a full mainnet address. The monitor later shows that address with `desk` and a worker from a second machine. Both labels share one payout address. The amounts are one wallet. See [several Workers on one address](https://iotahome.site/en/learn/bnt-address-workers-devices).

This page cannot install CUDA, choose a thread count for you, or turn hashrate into BNT. The bntpool.com start page only says “Mine Blocknet With Seine”. It states no fee and no minimum payout. A figure that is not stated stays unknown. Next, check that address in [how to read BNT rewards](https://iotahome.site/en/learn/blocknet-bnt-monitor-guide).

## Common questions

### Can macOS use the NVIDIA backend?

Seine's requirements table does not list NVIDIA on macOS. The documented macOS path is CPU. The ARM row marks Metal as experimental.

### Can I paste the shortname into the monitor?

No. From v0.2.16, Seine resolves the shortname to a full address before mining and logs it. The monitor accepts only that mainnet address.

### The monitor is empty. Should I change the default pool URL first?

Not yet. Seine's documented default is `stratum+tcp://bntpool.com:3333`. First check that the miner still points at bntpool.com and that the log already has a full mainnet address. Change the miner config only when one of those disagrees with the docs. The start page does not state another port.
